Rafael Armada
Founder & Photography Guide
Rafael is a renowned Birder and Bird Photographer from Barcelona. With over 30 years of experience in the field and a deep passion for Bird Photography, his extensive knowledge and expertise are the engine of our photo-tours.
He is the author of the book ‘Portfolio 1: Photographs and stories of extraordinary birds’ published by Lynx Nature Books in 2024. He has received two Gold Awards in the Bird Photographer of the Year competition, been named Overall Winner of the Belgian Namur Photo Festival, and won the Mammals category at the French Festival Photo Montier amongst other prizes.
Alejandra Rendón
Founder
Alejandra is a Birder, Bird Photographer and Storyteller from Colombia. She plays a key role in the design and creation of our experiences and is the mind and hands behind our communications, website and social media. She has a PhD in Computational Chemistry but recently she decided to dedicate her life to her greatest passion: Birds.
Alejandra is an ambassador of the Girls Who Click Organization since 2022 and her goal is to make visible the stories of birds to inspire the love for nature and to promote its conservation.
We are committed to supporting local communities and small businesses in the birding industry. We believe in the power of Responsible Bird Tourism as a tool to protect nature around the world.
Iván Lau
Birding Guide
Ivan is the tour leader of our birding tours in the North of South America. He is a Biologist and one of the most skilled and experienced Bird Guides in Northern South America. Originally from Venezuela, he moved to Colombia in 2017. With 1,697 bird species observed in the country, he ranks among the all-time top 5 birders with the highest species count. He collaborates as eBird reviewer for the Northern Region of the country, and holds the historical record for the individual big year in Colombia, a feat he accomplished unintentionally (at the beginning). He has contributed as a field researcher in the most recent expeditions to some of the country's remotest areas.
Rafa describes him as having a superpower for bird identification, as his talent to recognize even the most insignificant bird chirp is absolutely amazing.
Néstor Zapata
Photography Guide
Néstor is a young and skilled Birder and Bird Photographer from Colombia, known for his remarkable ability to design and craft stunning bird feeder scenarios. He has a real talent for choosing the perfect perches and backgrounds and using natural light to create breathtaking images. Nestor has worked at some of the most famous bird lodges in Colombia and Panama, where he's become the go-to guy for all the little details that help you capture the most incredible bird photos. during our Bird Photography Tours to Colombia, he is in charge of setting all the scenarios to get the perfect shots.
Rafa often says Nestor's work is comparable to the artistry of a Japanese gardener.
